CANDL (Church And Neighbourhood Development in London) is a Barnardo’s community development project based in Hackney Road. In 2004 we began offering parenting programmes based in local churches, and we needed crèche workers. As a community development project we were keen to use local trained staff, and not simply go to the nearest agency; E-mploy Agency was recommended to us by the Coram Project in Tower Hamlets, and we haven’t used any other agency since!

 E-mploy Agency have provided us with qualified crèche workers for morning and afternoon sessions, and qualified playworkers for evening sessions in various locations throughout Hackney. One of the real bonuses has been the continuity E-mploy has given us – usually the same workers for a whole thirteen-week programme, and those same workers coming to us again and again. They have been reliable, arriving on time, or letting us know if they have been held up; and the majority of them have been caring and professional. On those few occasions when a problem with a worker has arisen, E-mploy has dealt with it quickly and efficiently.

For many parents, leaving their child in the care of ‘strangers’ is enormously difficult, and we at CANDL do not underestimate that. We need good crèche workers in whom parents can have confidence, and E-mploy Agency has provided these, at a reasonable cost ; we shall continue to use them in the foreseeable future!
